Hardly think logic matters in this expansion of the EUA. I was impressed by https://twitter.com/JackClinton412/status/1538498045020708864 in the motivation. I am most concerned over regulatory capture and corruption. I hate to even have such thoughts and want to find evidence that reduces my concerns. I can't find any justification for the expansion. Parental fears for their children are quite proper but I worry that full disclosure isn't there. We have NO data on long term effect of mRNA technology and shouldn't be exposing children to those risks.

Considering sending this to an anxious parent of a 1 yr old who is still practicing restrictions.

I foresee her having a couple questions, would appreciate if anyone can provide references:

1. What are the other leading causes of death for kids higher than Covid?

2. Even if risks to kids was low, restrictions on them reduced transmission to older adults? At least for the first year pre-vaccine.

3. Further explanation of hospitalized with vs from covid and why this matters?

4. Where does statistic that 93-98% of us will get covid come from?

5. I imagine even if the benefit to vaccination is low, she would still prefer some benefit to no benefit. I suppose vinay is saying that is a fine choice, just shouldn’t be mandated. I’m encouraged to hear safety profile is good so at least there isn’t a harm. Really I just wish she wasn’t so anxious and felt

The need to wait until her baby is vaccinated.

This is causing a bit of a crisis for me. As a pharmacist and mother of a 4 year old and 6 month old, I never thought I'd not get my kids a vaccine. I never thought the FDA and CDC were perfect, but this is so disappointing. The evidence is so low and it will be mandated many places anyway.

I have 2 questions:

1) You said the safety data was good. The data for children 5-11 has reassured me regarding my son that the risk of myocarditis is restricted to young adult males. So while I'm not overly concerned about safety, I still didn't think much of the evidence.

Approximately 2,200 kids for Moderna and 1,000 for Pfizer for 2 months after.* I'm not expecting as many people as in the adult trials, but am I wrong to think there should be some more?

*I'm noting 2 months specifically because while more children were evaluated for safety, only that number were followed for 2 months. 2 months does seem a reasonable amount of time to evaluate vaccine safety.

2) Given the likely impossibilty of herd immunity for Covid, we aren't we focusing all efforts on how to help the high-risk population? Wouldn't this be much more effective?

I am glad the Covid vaccine will be available for high risk young children. The risk vs benefits is different for them, although it would sure be nice if we had a trial focusing on them to elucidate that
